Rukiga Sacco Limited hosted its annual general meeting at Apo Hotel, bringing together an enthusiastic group of delegates from its nine branches across the Kigezi region.
The meeting highlighted the organization’s growth, challenges faced, and a vision for the future. Rev. Ivan Muhoozi, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, expressed gratitude to the attendees for their active participation, emphasizing that each delegate serves as a vital link between members and the leadership.
The meeting’s agenda also focused on discussing member concerns, safeguarding savings, and promoting transparency and ethical governance within the cooperative.

Delegates were informed of several challenges, including high levels of loan defaulting and delayed court processes for loan recovery. In response, recommendations were made, including redistributing 50% of the net surplus to members and launching a quick digital loan service for amounts up to UGX 100,000.
Furthermore, plans for opening new outreach branches were announced in Katuna (Kabale), Noozi (Rwamucucu), Rubugiri (Rubanda), and Bikurungu (Rukungiri).
Agaba Nelson, the District Commercial Officer, facilitated the installation of Agaba Midrade as the new Chairperson, who will serve a four-year term.
Nelson urged other cooperatives in the region to hold their annual meetings, commending Rukiga Sacco for being the first in Rukiga District to conduct its AGM.
Kamusiime Zadoki the RDC Rukiga expressed his gratitude to the great job done by Rukiga Sacco in fighting financial illiteracy, spreading the message of president Museveni of fighting poverty adding that it has also helped to fight against money lenders with in the communities it has Branches.

Chief Guest Barigye Robert, Commissioner of Cooperatives Uganda, praised Rukiga Sacco for its impressive growth and contributions over the years, noting the transformation from a single branch to nine branches serving thousands.
He stressed the importance of maintaining operational standards to prevent members from seeking alternatives.

Founded in 2002, Rukiga Sacco has made significant strides in enhancing financial literacy among its members, particularly farmers in western Uganda.
The cooperative, which aims to empower its community with financial management skills, has witnessed a remarkable rise in membership from 36,869 in 2024 to 42,199 in 2025.
Total savings reached UGX 24.6 billion, with total assets now standing at UGX 39.3 billion.
