BUSHENYI- Eight people have lost lives in staggering accidents in the Greater Bushenyi Region within just one week, according to the Regional Traffic Officer, SP Tagan Sulaim.
The Traffic Officer revealed the alarming statistics this morning emphasizing the importance of obtaining a driving license, highlighting its numerous advantages for road safety.
Corroborating Sulaim’s concerns, Mr. Baluku Jokam, the OC Traffic Bushenyi District, pinpointed excessive speeding and reckless driving as major contributors to the high accident rate.
The officials shed light on the process of acquiring a driving license through the Ministry of Works and Transport, urging listeners to prioritize road safety.
The disturbing trend of accidents in the region has raised concerns among residents, with many calling for increased vigilance and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
As the authorities strive to curb the menace of accidents, the community is urged to play its part in promoting road safety and responsible driving practices.
In another development, the Police in Mitooma District have started investigations into the murder of a 50-year-old man.
The incident happened on March 24, 2025, in Bikungu Village, Bikungu Parish, Mutara Town Council, Mitooma District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Osbert Runwa, a 50-year-old peasant and resident of Bikungu Village.
It is alleged that on March 23, 2025, at around 10:00 PM, the deceased went to Mutara Town for leisure and did not return home.
However, on March 24, 2025, he was found lying dead along the road to his home with injuries on the head, arms, and legs.
Edinansi Bamuhindwire, a 76-year-old resident of Bikungu Village, said the matter was reported at Mutara Town Council Police Station, and inquiries commenced immediately.
Tumusiime stated that the body was taken to Kitagata Hospital mortuary in Sheema District for a post-mortem as investigations continue.
