Rotary Club of Rukungiri Central installs 17th President

The Rotary Club of Rukungiri Central on Saturday held a vibrant ceremony in which Rotarian Sophia Turyabagyenyi was installed as their 17th president. The event took place at the picturesque Rukungiri Inn Hotel attracting members and guests committed to community service.

Sophia Turyabagyenyi, a retired teacher with over 30 years of experience also as a counselor, has been an integral part of the club, serving as secretary for the past seven years. Her leadership journey is set to officially begin on July 1st, 2025. In her acceptance speech, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to fellow Rotarians for their trust and support, promising to mobilize more members and enhance the club’s visibility through media engagement.

The Rotary Club of Rukungiri Central is dedicated to creating lasting change globally, focusing on key areas such as disease prevention, basic education, and environmental conservation. Sophia Turyabagyenyi emphasized her commitment to these goals, pledging to improve sanitation and education through partnerships with other clubs.

The ceremony also featured remarks from Saul Katazahansi, the outgoing president, who reflected on the achievements of his term. Katazahansi expressed gratitude for the collective efforts of club members, highlighting their impact on the community and their commitment to fostering leadership in the younger generation.

Rotarian Nsubuga Steven Bewayo, the RDC of Rukungiri, represented the chief guest, General Jim Muhwezi, Minister for Security. Nsubuga congratulated Sophia Turyabagyenyi and praised the outgoing president Saul Katazahansi for his successes.

The RDC shared his personal journey with Rotary, stating that the organization has significantly contributed to his growth. He urged community members to join the Rotary Club, emphasizing the benefits of involvement.
