Regional Police Commander Sustains Injuries in Swift bus suspected bomb blast

NEWS-The Regional Police Commander for Greater Bushenyi was among those injured when a blast went off in a bus on Monday evening in Lungala in Mpigi Town Council.

News of an explosion that left two people dead and scores injured while travelling in a bus belonging to Swift Safaris Bus Company started circulating at about 6 pm.         

Eyewitnesses said that the incident happened at around 5.20 pm in a bus with registration number UAU 989T which was travelling from Kampala to Bushenyi.        

Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police Spokesperson said that among the injured is Adrian Kwetegyereza , the Acting Regional Police Commander for Greater Bushenyi who sustained severe injuries in the legs.

The Police Bomb Squad arrived at the scene at Lungala, on the Kampala-Masaka highway in Mpigi Town Council, to ascertain whether it was a bomb or another object.        

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga said that a team of bomb experts has been dispatched after the deadly explosion.

He said that the dead and several other victims including injured persons had been evacuated from the scene. 

The forensic team clad in white, ferried in a police truck to establish whether there was another explosive inside the bus.

Passengers alleged that the explosion could have taken place from the boot where luggage is transported.

The explosion comes two days after the bomb attack in Komamboga at a small eatery Georon next to the famous Digida Pork joint in Komamboga. The explosion left one person dead and three injured.
