More than 400 candidates have collected nomination forms for the positions of LC 3 Chairpersons and Councilors in Rukungiri District, all running under the NRM ticket.
The nomination exercise commenced on July 28 and will continue until August 4, taking place at the Rukungiri NRM Offices located in the municipality. This initiative marks an enthusiastic response from local leaders ahead of the elections scheduled for August 18.
Candidates are required to submit their completed nomination forms between August 5 and August 9. This election follows the parliamentary polls held on July 17 and the district and municipal elections on July 24 across Uganda, highlighting a busy electoral calendar.
Among the candidates, Kamusiime Alex, who is vying for the Councilor seat in Kashayo Parish, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the elections.
He emphasized his commitment to advocating for developmental ideologies that promote public interests in Bugangari Sub County stating his aim to enhance collaboration with sub-county councilors for better representation of Kashayo
In other words Arinaitwe Ivan, an aspiring Councilor for Bwanga Parish in Nyarushanje Sub County, highlighted the urgency of extending government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM).
He proposed the creation of a Town Council to ensure services reach households effectively, addressing gaps that have historically hindered community access to essential programs.
Baguma Philip Jai the director Smart Pub Rukungiri running for Ibanda Parish in Nyakishenyi Sub County, thanked the electorate for their support in the last elections. Philip Jai promised to uphold developmental initiatives and combat electoral malpractice, ensuring a transparent electoral process.
Lastly, Grolius Kyomugisha, who seeks to represent Nyarwimuka Parish in Ruhinda Sub County, called for unity among community members. She expressed her commitment to addressing local needs through collaborative efforts, emphasizing the importance of togetherness for sustainable development.
The active participation in this nomination process reflects a strong commitment among candidates to serve their communities and tackle pressing issues, setting the stage for a competitive electoral season in Rukungiri District.
