Mob kills man for stealing Gnuts, another one dies after knocking stationary truck

NEWS- Irate residents of Kyampunu-Kihumuro village, Kisengwe sub county in Kakumiro district, have lynched a man for allegedly stealing dried coffee and groundnuts from a produce store.

The deceased has been identified as Hamis Mawejje, a resident of Muliika-Igoza village in Nyamarwa upcountry, Kibaale district.

Sowedi Mukwaya, an uncle to the deceased, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Sunday at 10pm. Mukwaya stated that Mawejje was killed by angry residents who caught him stealing dried coffee and groundnuts from one of the stores in Kihumuro.

According to Mukwaya, the residents tied Mawejje’s hands before fatally attacking him with an axe, smashing his head, and later dumping his body on the road.

In another development, the Police in Rubirizi district are investigating circumstances in which a traffic accident occured on April 21 at around 2:00pm in Katunguru Trading Centre, claiming the life of a 48-year-old man.

The accident involved a Scania motor vehicle with registration number T951B/T8AS and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UGD 423M which was red in color.

SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Innocent Kadenge a resident of Kyenzanza in Kirugu Sub-County in Rubirizi district.

According to preliminary reports, Kadenge was riding his motorcycle from Kasese towards Kyambura when he collided with a stationary vehicle at Katunguru Trading Center. The impact of the crash was so severe that he died instantly at the scene.

The body of Innocent Kadenge has been transported to Rugazi Health Center IV mortuary where it will undergo a post-mortem examination. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the exact cause.
