RUKUNGIRI -Boda boda rider murdered,body dumped in Kabanguha River

Police in Rukungiri have kicked off  investigations surrounding the death of a 30yrs old Elias Bakamuzara a bodaboda rider, resident of Rutooma Ruganda Rwamujura ,Mayanga sub county in Mitooma district. 

According to Ambrose Twemurikye 25 years a saloon attendant at Rwamuzura in Mitooma district, he used the deceased as his rider to Rukungiri where they arrived at around 3:00pm for shopping.

Ambrose adds that while in Rukungiri town, the deceased informed him on how he was moving to first check on the girlfriend but never disclosed her name and place. He said that they agreed that after shopping Ambrose was to call the deceased which he did three times but in vein.

Ambrose narrates that the deceased picked at first and promised to be coming, for the second time he never picked and for the third time the phone was off prompting him to hire a different motorcycle that returned him in Mitooma at 06:00pm.

Upon arrival in Mitooma, he informed residents and the owner of the motorcycle Mwesigye Benard on how the deceased had disappeared from Rukungiri and with the help of the trucking device, the motorcycle was recovered on 18/10/2023 at around 10:00am by Rukungiri Police from Turyatunga Moses the area chairperson of Kigango Village, Ndago Parish, Nyarushanje Sub county who claimed to have received it from a resident one Kyarikunda Justina.

According to Justina the motorcycle was brought home by the grand son Kwikiriza Benson in the company of another person not known to her on the 17/10/2023 during morning hours, and the fact that the two had disappeared, she had suspected the motorcycle to be stolen or unlawfully obtained thus handing it over to the authority.

Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said in a statement that having recovered the motorcycle, it was handed in at CPS Rukungiri vide SD reference  51/18/10/2023 with inquiries of Disappearance of its rider.

Maate adds that On the 23/10/2023 at around 09:00am at Kaitumura cell, Northern B ward, Eastern division, Rukungiri Municipality,/district, when one Agatha Kenganzi moved to dig in her garden located near Kabanguha river, she saw an unidentified body in the said river, and informed her husband one Kabigumira Obed who also informed Mr David Tumwesigye the Mayor eastern division who notified the Police at CPS Rukungiri for further management.

Scene of crime was visited, examined and documented, body was retrieved and conveyed to Rwakabengo health center 111 for possible identification and postmortem to ascertain the actual cause of the death.

Police said a strong rope was found tied on the body’s neck an indication of strangulation. Police says Inquiries are at hand.
