NEWS-Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, the minister of security and the area Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, has urged parents to support their children’s education as they wait for the government.

Minister Muhwezi made the call yesterday, during a fundraising for the construction of classroom blocks and the purchase of computers for Kyabugashe High School in Rushasha Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County, in Rukungiri district.

According to Minister Muhwezi, it would be the responsibility of the government to enhance and renovate the infrastructure; but, in light of the limited funding available, parents should work diligently together to raise the infrastructure to the necessary level for the benefit of the children.

He spoke out against the practice of head teachers hounding students for building funds, stressing that the Ministry of Education and Sports and the entire government do not approve of it and urged them to always work with parents if they wish to expand the school.

However, he asserted that as leaders, they would always assist schools in such endeavors if they are well planned.

Minister Jim Muhwezi made a contribution of Ugx. 30 million during the function for the construction of the classroom blocks.

Alvas Arinaitwe, the Kyabugashe High School head teacher revealed that enrollment increased to over 923 students as a result of strong academic and sports achievements.

As a result, the school lacked structures, so students now study from outside behind trees, but given that it is rainy season, they may encounter numerous difficulties.

They were consequently forced to organize a massive fundraising event to raise money for the building of new classroom buildings to accommodate the students.

Minister Jim Muhwezi was praised for his contribution by Arinaitwe Hower, who pledged to use the money for the right purposes.

Emeritus Bishop Patrick Tugume Tusiingwiire, who spoke on behalf of North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, urged Christians to embrace education, particularly in their own communities because it is the foundation of progress.

Dr. Charles Matsiko the chairperson organizing committee hailed all people who participated in the fundraising towards construction of classroom blocks and buying computers but he requested for more support such that their intended goal can be achieved.

Meanwhile Minister Jim Muhwezi urged residents of Rukungiri and the entire country to be vigilant amid terror threats as they will be kicked out of the country.

After the function, Minister Jim Muhwezi preceded to Kebisoni Sub County in Rukungiri district to represent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the sendoff of late Gregory the brother to Owakukiroru George.

However, today Sunday, Minister Muhwezi also contributed Ugx. 30M towards the renovation of classroom blocks at Rushasha Primary School also in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri district.
