Kyabugashe High School in Rukungiri District marked a momentous occasion as it celebrated its remarkable achievement of being crowned champions in both boys’ and girls’ football for the third consecutive year. The festive event took place at the school in Nyakajeme subcounty, coinciding with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Annual General Meeting (AGM), where a new committee was formed to oversee the school’s activities for the next three years.
The school community, which comprises 844 students across O and A levels and 55 dedicated staff members, came together to honor this significant milestone. The Headteacher, Arinaitwe Alivasi, expressed profound gratitude to the football teams, particularly highlighting the girls’ exceptional performance explaining that winning these championships for three consecutive years is not small feat
Alivasi emphasized that the school’s focus on talent development and discipline has been crucial in fostering a winning mentality among the students together with the academic excellence.

Musinguzi Elias, the games teacher, echoed Alivasi’s sentiments, thanking the students and the alumni for their contributions to the school’s success. He urged parents to support their children in pursuing their talents, noting that many former students have secured scholarships at higher learning institutions thanks to their skills in sports indicating talent can open doors to opportunities that might otherwise be inaccessible.

The event also featured inspiring testimonials from students who have benefited from their athletic pursuits likes of Kahiira Patrick, captain of the Old Boys team, shared how football enabled him to attend school without financial burden stressing that his talent has allowed him to study from primary school to university at no cost highlighting the transformative power of sports.
Kirabo Ovia, the current captain of the girls’ team Kyabugashe high school, also spoke about her journey, noting that her football skills have not only paid for her education but have also introduced her to diverse opportunities and experiences saying that she has traveled to places she has never imagined she would see, and her parents have saved money on school fees because of the scholarships she has received.

The Chief Guest, Afande Akatwijuka Innocent Tibosire, urged parents and alumni to establish a sports account for the school.
Innocent explained that this initiative will aim at supporting school teams during sports seasons and enhance the school’s reputation. He contributed UGX 500,000 to initiate the fund and encouraged others to follow suit.

Obed Mwesigwa Kayanja, speaker of Nyakagyeme sub county and now aspiring for the district Councilor Nyakagyeme Sub county, congratulated the newly elected committee members and reminded them that effective leadership requires sacrifice.
He expressed hope that the committee would uphold the values of academic excellence, discipline, and talent development over the next three years.
