Kabale University student dies days to her graduation

A dark cloud of somber mood this week engulfed Kabale University fraternity and the family as well as relatives of their student Apolot Maureen Gloria, who passed on days to her graduation.

Via an X handle post, Kabale University confirmed the death of a third-year student, Apolot who was set to graduate on 31st October 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

According to information from some of the family member, Apolot reportedly succumbed to tuberculosis, which progressed to meningitis.

According to Kabahinda Shanitah, the class coordinator, Apolt’s death news first came from her sister on Wednesday 15th October 2025 at around 6:30 a.m. Apolot had been ill since August 2025. Despite receiving treatment at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, her condition worsened, leading to her death in the early morning hours.

Apolot, 30, hailed from Damasiko Village, Damasiko Parish, Gweeri County in Soroti District. Her burial is scheduled for Sunday, 19th October 2025, in her hometown of Soroti District.

This is not the first student to die while nearing graduation. In 2024, final-year students Methodius Niwamanya and Osbert Natuhwera, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Education, also died in a motorcycle accident just weeks before graduation.

Another student, Byaruhanga Merekezedeki, also lost his life in the same accident. More recently, first-year Agriculture student Christmas Aron was found dead at Ngorongosa Pond
