Highlights of Mathias Mpuga’s proposed electoral reforms

NEWS- Hon. Mathias Mpuga Nsamba has highlighted his proposed electoral reforms to the public.

Through his social media platforms, Hon. Matthias Mpuga Nsamba came out to highlight what he intends to present to parliament as far as electoral reforms are concerned.

Last week, Mathias Mpuga put the Parliament on notice that he will this week move as a private member and table a Bill to amend the Constitution and introduce Electoral reforms now that the state seems to have abdicated its duty.

While addressing the media, Mathias Mpuga Nsamba, noted that reforming the electoral laws is necessary before the country can be subjected to another ritual of an election in 2026.

Here below are Mathias Mpuga’s highlighted reforms

1. Restore and entrench Presidential term limits.

2. Presidential candidate to have a run mate who shall be the Deputy President.

3. Introduce a 2nd tier of Parliament with 39 MPs from the original 39 districts of Uganda. The Deputy President shall be its head.

4. Reduce the size of Parliament to 292 MPs.

5. Allow ordinary voters to challenge in court the presidential election results.

6. Presidential election results for each district be declared at the district before their transmission to the National Tally Centre.

7. Allow prisoners and Ugandans in the diaspora to vote.
