Members of Emyooga Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (Saccos) in Rukungiri District have been significantly empowered through a series of training sessions organized by the Microfinance Support Centre Limited. These initiatives aimed to equip leaders and members with the necessary skills to enhance the growth and development of their Saccos.
During the final workshop held at the Rukungiri Municipality council hall on 30th January ,2026 ,The Relations Officer for the Microfinance Support Centre in Kigezi Subregion, Namutebi Jackie, highlighted the successful outcome of the training sessions, which took place across various counties including Rubabo, Rujumbura and Rukungiri Municipality.
“These trainings are designed to empower both leaders and members, providing them with the knowledge to improve their Saccos,” Jackie said.

Jackie emphasized several critical areas that require focus for the effective development of Saccos. Key among these are the importance of hard work to attain seed capital, robust default management strategies, and knowledge sharing on Sacco growth. Participants were encouraged to embrace disciplined bookkeeping and record management, prioritize savings, and mobilize share capital. “By learning from better-performing Saccos and creating awareness about Emyooga, we can achieve remarkable growth,” she added.

The chairperson for Emyooga Saccos in the Kigezi Subregion, Begumanya Celeb, also spoke at the workshop, stressing the need for a saving culture among members. He pointed out that many individuals often spend beyond their means, which could jeopardize their financial aspirations. “It is crucial for our members to understand that savings can pave the way for future development,” Celeb stated. He called for collaboration among Sacco members to embrace a culture of saving and to work collectively to avoid defaults on loans.

Ainembabazi Laban, chairperson of the Emyooga Saccos Rukungiri District forum, expressed gratitude to the Microfinance Support Centre for organizing the training workshops.
