UPDATE! Police issue statement on Ggaba Beach boat collision, confirms fatalities

NEWS-The Uganda Police force has issued a statement updating the nation about the Ggaba Beach boat collisio.

According to Rusoke Kituuma, the police spokesperson, the incident occurred during the night of 1st December 2024 at around 9:00pm at Ggaba Beach on Lake Victoria.

He noted that the incident happened after a performance at Devine Beach.

“Last night, around 2100hrs, individuals were on a boat en-route to Ggaba Beach on Lake Victoria after a performance at Divine Beach”, part of the police statement read.

Kituuma notes that during their journey, their boat collided with another causing their boat to capsize.

According to police, people at Ggaba Beach heard cries for help and rushed to assist.

While the victims were rescued, one person identified as Wangoda Emmanuel a 22 year old  from Sironko District died from the accident and his body has today been retrieved by the Police Marine unit, Kituuma confirmed.

It is said that the capsized boat was carrying members of Sexo Flames band who had gone for a performance at Devine Beach on Lake Victoria.
