The territorial police in Rukungiri are hunting for the unknown suspect (s) allegedly for stealing a police gun, an SMG with 30 rounds of ammunitions.
This according to Kigezi Police spokesman ASP Elly Maate was on 26th July 2025 at around 8:30Pm at Rwakaraba police post Nyakishenyi sub county Rukungiri district.
Matte told the press that it’s alleged that, on the fateful at 6Am, No 83982 PC Muyambi Pius reported for normal duty at Rwakaraba police post, while his rifle was kept in his inner room next to police post counter.
And at around 20:00hrs he went for supper at a hotel of approximately 60 meters away from the post, leaving the gun in his bed room. After supper, he returned to the place of work, only to realize that his place had been broken into and his gun stolen.
He alerted those in the neighborhood who went at scene and confirmed the Incident. He thereafter alerted his OC post who had booked out for medication.
The scene of crime was visited by OC station Rukungiri with the K-9 team, but no positive results were obtained. PC muyambi Pius was arrested for questioning.
”Inquiries are ongoing, we ask the public members to remain security conscious, that should they see any suspicious object or person, they should immediately bring it to the notice of local leaders or relevant offices for the suspects to be apprehended and charged accordingly” said Maate.
