The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of two people respectively. This was Saturday at around 5Pm at Kicwamba Cell, Ibanda Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County Rukungiri District.
The deceased persons are, 34 year old Kenema Dinavence and 41 year old Byamugisha John, both resident of the above address. It’s alleged that on the said day at around 5Pm, Kenema Dinavence had just reached home from Nyarushanje where she had gone for burial.
As she had taken a rest in her compound, her neighbor on the opposite side of the road Byamugisha John crossed with a panga & cut her several times on the head, neck & shoulder for an unknown motive, killing her instantly.
According to Kigezi Region police spokesman ASP Elly Maate, the suspect (Byamugisha John) then went back to his house and when the area chairman interrogated him, the man admitted to committing the act.
As the Chairperson attempted to recover the suspected killer weapon and take him to the police, he was overpowered by the local residents and was also killed on spot.
The police at Rubabo station responded after being notified and they in turn informed Rukungiri CPS about the incidents.
Maate adds that statements were recorded from key witnesses, postmortem was done at the crime scenes and the two bodies were handed over to their relatives for a decent burial.

In a related development, the territorial police in Rukungiri have arrested two people on allegations of killing a 28 year old Denis Atuhaire, a resident of Kateramo village, Bugangari Parish and Sub County in Rukungiri District. The incident according to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman happened on Saturday at unknown hours of the night.
Maate names the suspects as Twesigomwe Brian, 29 year old, boda boda rider and Kamusiime Justine 53 years, both residents of Kateramo village, Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub County Rukungiri District.
According to Tibivamunda Dinavence a grandmother to the deceased, it’s alleged that on Sunday, he attended a party at their neighbor Alex Ngabirano’s home and he was last seen during that party at around 8Pm.
At around midnight, Tibivamunda returned home and found the behind door open and she saw him lying on bed facing down.
The grandmother narrates that she proceeded to her bed which is next room and slept until yesterday morning at around 7Am when she woke up and found deceased ‘s head shuttered, suspected blood stains spread on the beddings.
Maate told our reporter that she the informed the area Chairman Kubiriba Odomaro who advised her to report to the police. The case was registered at Bugangari Police Station, the scene of crime visited, processed and documented and that’s when the two suspects were arrested to aid police with investigations.
The body was retrieved and conveyed to Bugangari Health Center IV mortuary pending postmortem and the motive of the killing is not yet established.
