Shadow Minister roots for review in GROW program guidelines

KAMPALA- Shadow Minister for Gender, also Kyotera women Member of Parliament Hon. Fortunate Nantongo, is urging the government to review the terms of the GROW project, which was designed to provide financial support to local women entrepreneurs.

According to Nantongo, the project’s original goal was to enable women in markets and small businesses to access finance to grow their enterprises, however, many of these women are unable to benefit from the program because they lack the collateral demanded by banks to secure the funds.

Her call for a review comes after a group of women market vendors from across the country petitioned the Gender Committee of Parliament, appealing for the committee to intervene and urge the banks to soften the terms and conditions for accessing these funds, making them more accessible to women who are struggling to provide the necessary security.

MP Nantongo has assured these women that their concerns are being taken seriously and that she will continue to advocate for changes that will allow the GROW project to truly serve its intended beneficiaries.
