The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen has raised concerns about the safety of Boda-boda riders in Rukungiri, stating that a substantial number of them exhibit dangerous behavior.

Bewayo claims that the majority of boda-boda riders in Rukungiri district and the country at large may be characterized as irresponsible, and that this “madness” plays a big part in the rising number of road accidents that claim the lives of both the riders and their passengers.

RDC Bewayo was speaking with the Rukungiri Municipal leadership during the inspection on the progress of construction works at Rukungiri Health Center (IV) Maternity Ward in Rukungiri municipality.

Bewayo underlined at their site meeting the necessity of taking prompt action to solve the problem of the boda bodas who ride carelessly.

He testified that three weeks prior, he was traveling to Rubabo County when he seen a guy riding a boda boda with a passenger who was riding dangerously.

He was forced to halt, but the rider then crashed into his car.

RDC Bewayo continued, saying that he summoned the traffic police from Rukungiri Central Station, but it took them more than an hour to react, which is a sign of police indolence.

He continued by noting that it is a sign that victims at lower levels are being ignored if an RDC may report anything to the police and waits an hour to reply.

According to RDC Bewayo, the police fuel bad behavior in the boda boda sector because they consider them as superior to everyone, even when they are in error.
