In a significant step toward enhancing education, Rukungiri Municipality officially launched several ambitious construction and renovation projects aimed at improving facilities across local schools. The event took place today, marking a pivotal moment for the community’s educational landscape.
The launch was spearheaded by Assistant RDC Muhoozi Dickens, who was accompanied by key officials, including the DISO Rukungiri, the Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipality, and the Assistant Mayor. Their involvement underscored the importance of governmental support in advancing educational initiatives.
During the ceremony, Robert Agume, the Principal Education Officer of Rukungiri Municipality, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the funds allocated for these projects. He emphasized the need for contractors to ensure high-quality work and adhere to timelines, highlighting the government’s continued commitment to improving educational facilities.
Several schools will benefit from the newly launched projects, with notable initiatives including St. Gerard’s High School, Nyakibare
This project involves the renovation of the computer laboratory, administration block, and classrooms, with a budget of UGX 400 million as the work expected to be completed within six months.
Kashozi Primary School will use UGX 20,325,795 for the renovation of classroom blocks and windows. The project aims to accommodate 146 students and is scheduled for completion in three months. The school’s poor performance has been attributed to inadequate food for children, making this renovation crucial.
At Kahororo Primary School plans include the construction of two classroom blocks equipped with food shelves and designated entrances and exits. The project will cost approximately UGX 97 million and is expected to be completed in four months by Rwenkurijo Contractors.
At Kiyaga Primary School will see the construction of a 4-stance lined VIP latrine for around UGX 32 million, with a completion timeline of four months. TAM Consultancy and Procurement Limited will oversee the work.
Kazoora Jackson, the DISO Rukungiri urged all contractors involved to ensure safety and discipline among workers, particularly given their proximity to young students. He stressed the importance of maintaining a positive environment.
Muhoozi Dickens cautioned contractors to prioritize quality and timely completion, reinforcing the need for effective supervision from headteachers and school boards. He also extended his gratitude to the Government of Uganda, led by President Museveni, for their unwavering support.
Headteachers Musinguzi Naftari from Kahororo Primary School and Kyokusiima Patience from Kiyaga Primary School both expressed appreciation for the initiatives. They believe these renovations will significantly enhance student performance and increase enrollment, ultimately benefiting the community as a whole.
