RUKUNGIRI- In a bid to ensure that residents have enough food in their homes, the Rukungiri Municipality hopeful Member of Parliament Counsel Isaac Atukunda yesterday launched the distribution of maize grains to farmers as planting season nears.
The grains will be distributed to residents in all three divisions with each set to receive 600 kilograms.
Speaking at the handover of the grains to leaders from respective divisions in a function held in Nyaruharo cell, Kyatoko Ward in Eastern Division in Rukungiri municipality, Counsel Isaac Atukunda said that the grains will boost the area’s food basket for the residents’ families and surplus for income generation.
Since the donation comes at a time when most of Rukungiri Municipality residents were impacted by severe rainfall and hailstorms in February and early March this year, Counsel Isaac emphasized the importance of timely planting to help affected villages recover from the damage caused by the storms.
He urged the farmers to ensure timely planting of these grains rather than selling or eating them. Atukunda requested residents of Rukungiri Municipality to elect leaders who will lobby and support them in every situation to have better services adding that he is able and suitable for the position since he was born and grown from Rukungiri Municipality.
