Chaired by Speaker Constance Tusiime, the meeting brought together the Deputy Mayor, Councilors, Heads of Departments, and other government officials.

During the session, Deputy Mayor Mr. Turyahabwe Bernard expressed gratitude to the Mayor and Town Clerk for their concerted efforts in advancing municipal development. He highlighted significant achievements, including the acquisition of land for the Municipal Council and the construction of roads throughout the town. Mr. Turyahabwe also noted the successful allocation of funds to various educational institutions, such as St. Gerald’s Secondary School-Nyakibale, Kashozi Primary School, Kahororo Primary School, and Kiyaga Primary School, with several projects already launched.

In his remarks, the Deputy Mayor acknowledged the central government for its financial support through programs like the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SEGOP), which empower various community groups. He announced that the Municipality will benefit from projects under the UPDF Tarehe Sita initiative, which includes the construction of classrooms and latrines, as well as the supply of stationery to selected schools.

Mr. Turyahabwe called on Councilors to collaborate with the government and development partners to ensure the success of these initiatives. He also revealed that the Municipality will soon receive a vehicle for the Mayor’s office, helping to facilitate official duties.

Dr. Ahabwe Davis, the Principal Medical Officer, extended his gratitude for the forthcoming ambulance designated for Rukungiri Health Centre IV. He emphasized that this vehicle will significantly enhance emergency response by transporting patients to higher-level facilities, ultimately preventing avoidable deaths.

Adding to the discussions, ASP Kisakye Michael, Officer in Charge of Rukungiri Police Station, assured the Council of the Municipality’s peace and security. He reported that most security concerns had been addressed through interagency cooperation and highlighted ongoing recruitment for police constables to support the Uganda Police Force during the upcoming elections.
