The permanent secretary in the ministry of public services Bitarakwate Catherine Musingweire has confirmed that arts teachers will equally start earning shs. 4M like that of their fellow science teachers.
Bitarakwate revealed this while speaking to the Parliamentary committee on human rights narrating that this will be achieved after five years.
She explained that they started with the science teachers but the plan of the government is to have all teachers in the country earn the same.
Muruuli Mukasa the minister of public services narrated that although shs.800b is needed for teachers’ salary enhancement, they only have 200b.
Last month, arts teachers went on strike paralyzing teaching in the majority of public schools protesting unequal salary pay.
This was after the government announced salary increments for all scientists including science teachers.
In parliament, the house chaired by Anita Among directed Muruli to present a comprehensive statement on the matter.
During the plenary, opposition chief whip John Nambeshe urged that the selective salary enhancement for teachers was discriminatory and has opened a paradox box.
