NEWS– The President of the Republic of Uganda HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has commissioned new roads in Mbale City.

The newly constructed roads were commissioned by President Museveni on Friday 20th December 2024 as he is in the area to monitor Government programs in the region.

The newly commissioned roads are under the Uganda Support to Municipality Infrastructure Development (USMID).

According to President Museveni, the government’s focus is on empowering the base which is the population stressing that by engaging them, they can increase awareness and participation in the money economy, ensuring that every household earns an income.

“When the base is active, purchasing power grows”, he added.

The president noted that the government tackled smuggling (magendo) to establish industrial parks, creating job opportunities despite initial opposition saying that Mbale now benefits from these developments.

He added that “next, we will develop the railway and pipeline systems to transport oil and heavy cargo, reserving roads for passenger transport. We must diversify our multimodal transport system”.
