The Chief Executive Officer National Identification and Registration Authority Rosemary Kisembo has assured members of parliament on the parliamentary committee on commissions statutory authorities that by the end of October this year they will through with registering all Ugandans in diaspora to get national identity cards.
The Chief Executive Officer National Identification and Registration Authority revealed this after she was asked to reveal why they have taken long to register Ugandans in the diaspora to get national identity cards.
Mps on the committee while using the auditor general’s report for the financial year 2023-2024 found out that despite the fact that NIRA was given money to register Ugandans in the diaspora, the speed which they are doing the work is warrying which prompted the MPs to ask the chief executive officer NIRA to explain the status of the project.
In her response to MP’s queries, the chief executive officer of NIRA Rosemary Kisembo noted that by October they will be done with the exercise and she also outlined the countries where the exercise is now taking place.
Kisembo also told the committee that as per now they have register over 200o Ugandans in Quatar and that they finished registering those in the east African countries.
