“Our School structures are not dilapidated as people allege” Rukungiri RDC

RUKUNGIRI-Parents and guardians have been called upon to ensure taking their children back to school on Monday next week as Educational Institutions reopen.

The call was made by the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen after monitoring the readiness of some schools in the district on how ready they are to observe Health Ministry’s SOPs to ensure safety of learners.

Nsubuga visited schools including Kinyasano Girls High school in Rukungiri municipality, Kasoroza and Kyamurari primary Schools all in Nyakagyeme sub county among other schools stressing that they are all prepared to reopen since they’re already setting up measures of having Standard Operating Procedures observed.

The RDC warned head teachers against rejecting children that were impregnated during COVID-19 lockdown explaining that the government statement is clear that all children should get back to school irrespective of the status they are in now.

Nsubuga cautioned boarding schools against using tripod beds they don’t guarantee social distancing, a major remedy to COVID-19 spread.

He however made it clear that most of school structures are not dilapidated like how people think confirming that all schools in Rukungiri will open on Monday.

Muhangyisa Boaz, the head teacher of Kyamurari Primary School revealed that they might receive low turn up of children getting back to school in that most of the girls in the area were impregnated during lockdown.

Muhangyisa added that even some of teachers might not report back since most of them joined other businesses during the lockdown for survival.

Kiyasimire Allen, the head teacher of Kinyasano Girls High School revealed that they are well prepared to reopen the school since the required Standard Operating Procedures are already in place.

While addressing the country on 31st December 2021, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced that all schools will reopen on Monday 10th January 2022.
