NEWS– After being closed for several months and months of public complaints, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel concerning the Katete bridge in Mbarara city.
This comes after the Mbarara City Council leaders have launched the rehabilitation of Katete Bridge.
According to Assy Abireebe Tumwesigye the City clerk, the Ugx 366 million project will involve dismantling the bridge deck, installing guardrails, and laying a new wearing course.
The rehabilitation works at the bridge have commenced with completion expected in one month, as confirmed by the City mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi.
Mbarara City authorities have contracted the UPDF Engineering brigade to repair Katete bridge.
The bridge which connects Mbarara city centre and Nyamitanga division has been in a sorry state for nearly 10 months.
