Makerere University Guild council launches outreaches for stranded students

KAMPALA– The Makerere University Guild council has on Saturday extended a helping hand to it’s stranded students in different residences.

Ivan Ssempijja, the 86 the Makerere University Guild President noted that they have started outreaches to their stranded students in different residences which will be done in phases.

“We have started our phased outreaches to students who were not able to return home when the lockdown was declared”, Ssempijja noted. 

According to him, the welfare of the students is the priority of his government and even when he has not had so much opportunity to exhibit this with his electorate at university due to the closure of academic institutions, they will stand with those that are “stranded” in various residences. 

Ssempijja stressed that they were able to give out some food relief and personal effects including soap and sanitary towels to their female colleagues. 

Ssempijja appealed to the Government to take the issue of people’s welfare serious most especially now when their sources of income are locked down.

“As we continue to do what we can, we call upon the government to take the issue of people’s welfare seriously especially now when most of their income generating ventures are equally under lockdown”, Ssempijja added. 

According to this University Guild President, they are also reaching out to their comrades and partners to offer a hand in this relief program and all outcomes will be communicated through their official channels.
