Katurika Secondary School held its Annual Sports Day on 17th June 2026 as part of participating in co-curricular activities. The event took place on the school grounds premises in Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri District, where students took part in athletics competitions. The function was attended and supported by government officials, parents, alumni, and staff.
The Sports Day featured competitions from four houses: Giraffe, Lions, Uganda Cranes, and Super Eagles. These houses competed in various athletics events as a way of identifying and developing students’ talents. Lions House emerged as champions for the fourth consecutive time, after accumulating a total of 416 points.
While talking at the Sports Day as the chief guest of honour, Arinaitwe Solomon, the Inspector of Schools for Rukungiri District, congratulated Katurika Secondary School for committing themselves to the Ministry of Education and Sports schedule. He emphasized that extra-curricular activities help learners to improve their talents for future benefit. He therefore urged all headteachers to prioritize designing school timetables that include games and sports time in order to balance the education system.
In his remarks, the Sports Teacher, Muhwezi Martin, explained that the Sports Day is held annually mainly to prepare students for district competitions in athletics. He further noted that the school is well prepared to represent their institution up to the national level. He appealed to everyone to cooperate for better performance, and pledged to continue supporting other games so that every student has an opportunity to take part.
The Headteacher of Katurika Secondary School, Muhumuza Sam, also congratulated everyone who participated in making the event successful. He urged students to fully take part in co-curricular activities, noting that these activities build talents that help learners to survive and remain memorable even after leaving school.

Overall athletics champions, Oshabahebwa Unice and Kwesigaruhanga Evert, praised the school management and the Board for organizing a Sports Day that keeps them motivated for higher competitions. They advised fellow athletes to maintain discipline and to trust in themselves for better results.
