Residents of Kamatabura Village in Rwanda Parish, Bwongyera Subcounty, have voiced their frustrations regarding the poor state of the Kamatabura to Rwanda road. Community members including Ezra Arihamwenaitwe, Fortunate Tushemerirwe, and Tuhirirwe Amos expressed their disappointment with the government for neglecting the road, which they believe is hindering local development.
The residents highlighted that heavy rainfall has severely damaged the road, resulting in stagnant water and large potholes that complicate transportation. This deterioration has particularly impacted farmers, including coffee and banana growers, who struggle to transport their produce to nearby markets in Rwashamaire and Nyamunuuka.
Bodaboda riders and motorists have also been affected, with some reporting accidents due to the hazardous conditions. Additionally, residents expressed concern for patients who find it difficult to reach major health facilities such as Itojo Hospital and Rwashamaire Health Center IV.
“We urge the government to address this issue as soon as possible, as we are also Ugandans deserving of road access,” they stated.
**In response, Vincent Mugirangabo**, the LC5 councilor for Bwongyera Subcounty, assured residents that funding for road repairs has already been allocated in the 2025-2026 financial year. He confirmed that a contractor has been hired to begin work on the road.
Mugirangabo urged patience among residents, emphasizing that the government is aware of the situation and is committed to resolving the issues promptly.
As the community awaits action, the call for improved infrastructure remains a pressing concern for the residents of Kamatabura Village.
