Five suspects are in custody and another one hospitalized after he was shot for allegedly robbery of a phone and money in Kabale district.
Elly Maate kigezi region police spokesperson has confirmed to journalist identifying the suspects as Asiimwe Joshua,Niwebyona Gilbert,Muhwezi Alexander,Niwebyona Nicholas and,Teriyeitu Ezra all residents of Kiyora cell Rutoma parish Northern division Kabale municipality/ district.
According to Maate ,the incident happened on Thursday 4/5/2023 at past midnight at.Kiyora trading centre along Bunyonyi road .
Maate told journalist that Muhangi Anderson 33 years a journalist working with Ktown Radio on his way home, was attacked by those mentioned thugs, hit and stole his mobile phone Pp2 and 35,000= Ugx.
In the process, another person one Evelyn a bar owner who wanted to help him out was badly hit and injured with a blunt object on the chest and bled profusely.
Police was alerted and swung in action, on arrival the thugs wanted to fight them with machete and in self defense one of the suspects Abaho Moses Bruno was shot in the shoulder and is admitted at Kabale referral hospital.
In a related development, on Tuesday night, eight suspects were rounded up and arrested at Kekubo, suspected to be among those who have been terrorizing area of Kabale town and it’s suburbs after they attacked and assaulted the area chairperson one Byarugaba Alex who was escorting his children for unknown reason.
The suspects are;Taremwa Godwin,Ngabirano Christopher, Nuwagaba Blessing,Niwamanya Philemon,Twinamatsiko Duncan,Akankwasa Dickson,Byomuhangi Daniel and,Akintoranire Brian.
These were arrested at Kekubo past midnight on the 2/5/2023 after he called and alerted the police for rescue.
Both case files are being investigated and upon completion of inquiries, will be arraigned before courts of law as more operations continue.
