Former parliamentary aspirant for Rukungiri Municipality, Hon. Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe, has rallied Ugandans to reject injustices in the country following today’s denial to hold prayers at Rubaga Cathedral. Speaking to our news reporter, she expressed her deep disappointment after arriving at the Rubaga cathedral to pray for detained opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, only to find projectors announcing that the prayers had been postponed.

She has explained that the situation escalated when Eng. Winnie Byanyima, wife of the detainee, asked the Archbishop of Rubaga Cathedral Semwogerere to understand the abrupt cancellation. According to Byanyima, the Archbishop revealed that he had received a directive from the government prohibiting the prayers, citing a need to determine if they were politically motivated.

Hon. Ingrid Turinawe criticized the government and President Museveni’s regime for misusing religious leaders, urging them to serve all people fairly rather than favoring one side. She expressed confusion over why the prayers for Dr. Besigye who was wed at Rubaga Cathedral were halted, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in times of need.
