NEWS– The head of security at the opposition National Unity Platform party headquarters Achileo Kivumbi has finally been granted bail.
Kivumbi who has been in detention since August was on Monday 21st October 2024 released following the a cash bail of Ugx 2 million granted by the General Court martial.
Achileo Kivumbi was welcomed by the party officials who included the party Principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi wine and the party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavuule.
According to Bobi wine, Achileo was violently abducted on 1st August 2024 before spending several days under incommunicado detention and torture and was later taken to his home where operatives planted military pips as witnessed by various onlookers.
Bobi wine revealed that Achileo was then arraigned before the military court and charged with unlawful possession of military equipment.
He noted that while they are happy to receive their brother back, they continue to condemn the ongoing lawlessness.
“Achileo has spent close to three months under illegal detention, and he leaves behind many other political prisoners. Every person of good conscience must condemn and fight this criminal conduct by the Museveni regime”, he added.
