UGANDA- Unknown gunmen on Friday evening launched a violent attack on a hardware store in Buwenge Town along Jinja-Kamuli road, left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Authorities in the Kiira region have since intensified efforts to track down a group of these armed robbers responsible for this violent attack.

According to the spokesperson for Kiira region police SP James Mubi, the incident occurred on the evening of Friday, April 4, at approximately 8:00 PM. Armed assailants stormed Praise God Hardware Shop, made off with an unspecified amount of cash, and then opened fire on customers inside the store.

The gunfire fatally wounded Bumali Mbadi and left Eric Matege with severe injuries. Both victims were reportedly at the shop to purchase hardware supplies at the time of the attack.

Mbadi’s body has since been transported to the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, while Matege is receiving specialized medical treatment at the same facility. Local law enforcement, led by SP Morris Oyee, the Divisional Police Commander (DPC) of Buwenge Police Station, swiftly responded to the scene.

A cartridge recovered at the scene has been submitted to the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) in Kampala for forensic ballistic analysis, which investigators hope will provide crucial leads in identifying the firearm used and its owner.

The regional police commander, SSP Charles Nsaba, is heading the manhunt for the suspects, and security operations in the area have been heightened.

Police are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators.

“The Kiira regional police command remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and their property despite this tragic incident,” SP Mubi stated.

“We urge everyone to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.”

The public is advised to contact Buwenge Police Station or the Kiira Regional Police Headquarters with any information related to the robbery and shooting.
