NEWS– The president of the Republic of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has revealed the government’s readiness to address the issue of salary enhancement for arts teachers in the country.
According to President Museveni, the government plans to enhance salaries of the arts teachers in a phased approach.
Museveni who was in company of his wife Janet Kataha Museveni sounded this on 19th October 2024 while at Cricket oval Lugogo as they attended World Teachers’ Day celebrations.
President Museveni congratulated all the teachers in Uganda especially the 12 Ugandan teachers who excelled in performance this year and received awards for their achievements.
He noted that despite the challenges facing the country, the NRM government has prioritized mass education which he said has resulted in an increase in the literacy rate from 43 to 76 percent.
“Everything we do aims to empower everyone: mass education, mass immunisation, and security for all to bring peace throughout the country”, he added.
President Museveni’s message on salary enhancement follows the grievances by the arts teachers and education well wishers ever since the enhancement of salaries for only scientists that left the sector divided.
On the same function, President Museveni honoured his pledge of Ugx 20 Bn to the Teachers’ Saccos.
