NEWS– The government has ordered the relocation of all survivors and people living in the vulnerable areas of Bulambuli District following a devastating landslide.
This is according to Rt. Hin. Robinah Nabbanja the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda who spent the entire Friday 29th November 2024 in Bulambuli District to deliver condolences to the families of the deceased worth 5 million shs per dead person and 1 million shillings per person injured for treatment sent to them by the President.
Hon. Nabbanja who was in company of Disaster Preparedness, Relief, and Refugees, state minister Lillian Aber , area MPS, local leaders and technocrats, did an on spot assessment of the damage caused by a landslide that has so far claimed 20 lives and left scores missing.
According to the Premier, the landslide triggered by a 10-hour downpour on Wednesday night buried homes, destroyed crops and left the communities in Buluganya Sub-County devastated with more than 100 residents still unaccounted for as rescue operations continue.
She applauded the rescue teams that include UPDF, Uganda police and local volunteers for working tirelessly to recover bodies and locate missing persons despite the impassable roads.
She also appreciated the efforts of Uganda Red Cross, Ministry of Health Office of the Prime Minister and other emergency providers for availing food, shelter and medical aid to those displaced.
“We urge all survivors and those in vulnerable areas to relocate immediately to Bunambutye for safely. The NRM government is committed to ending such catastrophies through medium and long-term interventions. We call upon leaders and residents to cooperate”, she added.
