In a commendable initiative to enhance community relationships, the Centenary Bank Rukungiri Branch recently organized a day of sports activities in collaboration with Immaculate Heart Girls Nyakibare. The event took place on the school’s premises in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, and aimed to foster a spirit of unity and camaraderie between the two institutions.

The day was filled with exciting competitions, including volleyball, where the staff of Immaculate Heart Girls triumphed, and a thrilling football match that concluded in a draw, with both teams scoring two goals. In addition to these popular sports, participants engaged in athletics and tug-of-war, showcasing their talents and teamwork.

Brian Kasaija, the branch manager of Centenary Bank Rukungiri, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that it goes beyond mere financial transactions emphasizing that they want to unite not just through their banking activities but also through recreational events.

Kasaija mentioned the importance of balancing work with play, noting that such interactions contribute to healthier relationships and well-being. He pointed out that both institutions share a foundation in Catholic values, which strengthens their bond and encourages mutual understanding.

Sister Grace Merry Naturinda, Deputy Headteacher at Immaculate Heart Girls Nyakibare, echoed Kasaija’s sentiments. She emphasized that events like these are crucial for building strong partnerships with the community stating that it’s essential to cooperate with the people you live with for the betterment of everyone. Sister Grace called on parents, students, government officials, and all stakeholders to focus on education, especially with upcoming exams on the horizon.

Michael Ahereza, the Assistant Games Headteacher at Immaculate Heart, expressed his gratitude to Centenary Bank for their unwavering support. He noted that the bank not only assists the school financially but also provides gifts to students, enhancing their educational experience. Ahereza also spoke about the health benefits of such sports events, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness in combating health issues like hypertension and stress.
