The government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment is set to extend water to residents of Bwambara and Bugangari Sub Counties in Rukungiri district.

The works commenced yesterday as representatives from the Construction Company, Ministry of Water and Environment and Rukungiri district conducted a feasibility study in the project’s intended location.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni promised residents of Bwambara and Bugangari Sub Counties this water project in 2011 but since then, no action was done. However, residents of Bwambara and Bugangari Sub Counties informed Hon. Jim Muhwezi, their County Legislator and Country’s security minister, at a community engagement in his constituency that they struggle with shortage of safe and clean water.

Fortunately, during their cabinet meeting, President Museveni told the ministers that a multibillion water project was on the horizon and will be done in some districts, executed by a Chinese company China Harbow Engineering Company Limited.

At that point, Minister Jim Muhwezi reminded the President that he promised piped water to residents of Bwambara and Bugangari Sub Counties over ten-year ago, and the President agreed to add this area to the list of beneficiaries.

During the feasibility study, Rukungiri district Water Engineer Deus Twekwase said that after its completion, the project will address the prevailing water challenges in these Sub Counties.

Twekwase added that the water source for this project is Kabale which is located in Kashayo Parish, Bugangari Sub County Rukungiri district.
