School Board members and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Executive Committees have been urged to regularly visit and ask accountability in schools when they need development in the schools they are heading. This call was made by Kamuntu Herbert, the Headteacher of Kyabugashe High School in Nyakagyeme subcounty Rukungiri District, during press conference at the school premises.
Kamuntu advised that since parents are the ones who mandate them to lead, board members and PTA executives must not limit themselves to meetings alone. He emphasised that their responsibility goes beyond oversight, urging them to visit schools frequently and monitor progress daily.
He further noted that while the Headteacher is appointed by Government and may be transferred, board members and PTA leaders are selected by parents and therefore carry a direct duty to ensure that schools improve.
Kamuntu said he joined Kyabugashe High School in March 2026 and highlighted some of the achievements he has brought to the institution, including installing water and paying off debts.
He explained that his main focus is to promote good academic performance and discipline among learners. He added that some students who completed S6 last year are expected to benefit from Government sponsorships.
In addition, he revealed that the school plans to install cameras to help reduce misbehaviour among students and improve accountability.
Ainebyoona Mike, the school Director of Studies, said learners have already started the third term, advising them to put more emphasis on their books and studies. He also encouraged parents and teachers to fulfil their roles to enable learners to pass their examinations.
Speaking during the press conference, Tumwebaze Jim Kazahura, the PTA Chairperson, urged parents to cooperate with the Headteacher, staff, and other stakeholders. He said collaboration among parents, teachers, and learners is key to improving learner performance and ensuring overall school success.
Some students from Kyabugashe High School, including Orishaba Monic, Musiime Judith, and Aineplan Alphar, said with mentorship from parents and teachers—together with cooperation between learners and staff they have managed to remain focused and succeed in their studies.
The learners expressed satisfaction that even cases of misconduct are addressed through guidance and accountability within the school community. They also commended Headteacher Kamuntu for his advice and said it has given them hope for better performance.
