NRM Dominates Rukungiri LC2 Elections as 105 Parishes Participate.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has emerged victorious in the Local Council (LC) 2 elections conducted across Rukungiri District on 10 August 2026, winning the highest number of representatives districtwide.

Speaking as the Rukungiri District Returning Officer, Namara K. Abas, said the elections were successfully conducted and that all 105 parishes in the district fully participated in the exercise,confirming that no parish was left out.

Abas explained that each parish selected its LC2 representatives at parish level, resulting in a total of 105 seats for the district.

According to Abas, the results showed that out of the 105 parishes, NRM secured 82 representatives. He added that the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) gained 11 seats, while 12 independent candidates were elected, bringing the total number of LC2 seats to 105.

The Returning Officer also extended his appreciation to all stakeholders who took part in the election period and commended the public for maintaining peace and stability throughout the process.

He congratulated those who emerged victorious, and urged candidates who did not win to cooperate with the elected leaders, emphasizing that residents should continue to benefit from development initiatives in their communities since the elections are now complete.
