The Rukungiri Assistant RDC Kellen Kagisha has asked the district leadership to give total support to the Irrigation for climate Resilience project in Matanda-enengo micro-catchment areas.
This was during the launch of the implementation of catchment management measures and promotion livelihood activities in matanda-enongo micro catchment areas held on yesterday at Heritage Hotel in Southern division Rukungiri Municipality.
Speaking during the function, Kagisha revealed that this is a government effort, and all of the local communities will receive guidance on endeavors like fishing, beekeeping, and other agricultural pursuits to improve their standard of living.
Dr Brian Baguma Emmanuel who heads the Albert Water Management zone under the ministry of water and environment which centers on irrigation for climate resilience project in matanda-enongo micro-catchments revealed that they are mainly focusing on how the communities have access to water for irrigation during dry season.
Two water dams will be built in Enengo and Matada as part of this project, which Dr. Brian Baguma says will be finished in a year and help the residents of Rukungiri and Kanungu Districts.
According to him, these programs include planting trees, restoring wetlands, and teaching people how to make more money.
Agaba Hilary, deputy CAO for Rukungiri district thanked the government of Uganda through the ministry of water and environment for considering Rukungiri and kanungu districts with such big project to benefit the communities.
At the launch, Agaba promised full assistance and stated that the restoration of wetlands and forests would also help this project thrive.
The launch of the project was witnessed by stake holders and district leaders from districts of Mitoma, Rukungiri and Kanungu.
