Supporters of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) organized a peaceful demonstration today, launching a campaign for the bail of Dr. Kiiza Besigye and other political prisoners.

The gathering highlighted concerns over the unspecified charges against Dr. Besigye and other detainees, including Hajj Abed Rutale, who were arrested last November on firearm-related charges. Marching through the streets of Rukungiri Municipality, demonstrators held posters urging the government and judiciary to grant Dr. Besigye bail.

Hon. Ingrid Turinawe, the PFF candidate for Rukungiri Municipality, emphasized the urgency of the judiciary addressing these cases promptly. “Enough is enough,” she declared, insisting that all Ugandans deserve equal rights to fair hearings and timely judicial decisions. Turinawe stated that they expect Dr. Besigye to be granted bail by August 6, 2025, and urged detractors to cease discouraging public demands for justice.

The demonstration also saw significant youth participation, including Boaz Kamusiime, the youth chairperson for PFF in Rukungiri Municipality, and Twinomujuni Muksin from the Ruruku division. They echoed the call for equal rights and urged citizens nationwide to support their campaign, believing it will lead to a successful outcome.

As Dr. Besigye’s next court appearance approaches, supporters remain hopeful for a positive resolution, emphasizing the importance of justice for all Ugandans.
