President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni says he is impressed with the score made by the Parish Development Model Initiative to elevate the people from subsistence hood into the money economy.

President Museveni notes that the PDM preceded other socioeconomic empowerment interventions which were not as impactful compared to the PDM that has so far enrolled most people outside the money economy into business.

The president has also ordered for inclusion of street vendors in Kampala City and other micro business owners on the list of Parish Development Model beneficiaries.

President Museveni notes that PDM is socioeconomic empowerment fund meant to avail financial support to all entrepreneur ideas from people qualified for the program.

Museveni also directed that people without permanent residencies especially tenants shouldn’t be left out the PDM provided they have National Identity cards to follow them up.

He dismissed claims of high taxation on imports by city traders explaining that the government levies tax on only luxurious goods and those with domestic options.

The president says that none of the locally manufactured products are taxed as such and challenged traders to opt for manufacturing and avoid importing items that outcompete locally manufactured products.
