A formal handover ceremony took place today at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) offices, marking the transition of leadership in Rukungiri Municipality.
The outgoing Town Clerk, Mr. Nuwamanya Robert, is set to continue his role in the Ishaka Bushenyi Municipal Council, while Mr. Tumwesigye Isaiah takes over, having previously served as Town Clerk in Ntungamo Municipal Council.
In his farewell address, Mr. Nuwamanya highlighted several key achievements during his tenure in Rukungiri. These include the automation of street parking systems, the successful renovation of the municipal administration block, the full disbursement of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds, and the launch of a municipal magazine dedicated to showcasing developmental projects. His contributions have been pivotal in enhancing service delivery and transparency within the municipality.
Mr. Tumwesigye Isiah expressed his gratitude for the collaborative environment he enjoyed in Ntungamo and underscored the importance of teamwork. He called upon the Rukungiri team to maintain a spirit of cooperation and dedication, pledging to build upon the initiatives set forth by Mr. Nuwamanya, particularly in implementing the municipal budget effectively.
In the words of His Worship the Mayor of Rukungiri, Mr. Charles Makuru, commended Mr. Nuwamanya for his impactful leadership. He encouraged Mr. Tumwesigye to sustain the momentum of development and highlighted strategic decisions made during Mr. Nuwamanya’s term, such as engaging UPDF contractors to minimize VAT-related costs.
The Mayor also cautioned against seeking cheap popularity in public service and urged vigilance against encroachment on government land.
In the words Steven Nsubuga Bewayo the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Rukungiri District praised the outgoing Town Clerk for his performance and emphasized that leadership transitions are a normal aspect of public service.
He encouraged all stakeholders to work harmoniously with the new Town Clerk and officially closed the ceremony, marking a new chapter for Rukungiri Municipality.
