NEWS– The police in Rubanda district have launched investigations to establish the cause of a fatal accident that claimed lives of 8 people and left 29 critically injured.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson noted that the Friday 29th November 2024 accident occurred at around 10:10pm in Kamukirwa cell, Nyarurambi ward, Rubanda town council, along Kabale Kisoro road in Rubanda district
The police spokesperson narrated to our reporter that the accident involved a motor vehicle registration number UBK 037K Toyota hiace white in color.
Maate revealed that the accident claimed lives of the yet to be identified 8 people who included 3 female juveniles, 3 female adults and two male adults.
By press time, the details of the victims were not yet identified but 29 people had all been rushed to Kabale regional referral hospital by ambulances from Kisoro and Rubanda
It’s alleged that the motor vehicle mentioned above failed to brake, hence failure to negotiate a sharp corner and fell approximately 100m off road.
It is suspected that the vehicle was carrying Congolese nationals (escapees) to Rwamiwaja refugee camp in Kamwenge.district.
All victims were rushed to Kabale referral hospital for first aid and bodies of deceased persons were conveyed to Kabale hospital mortuary by UG 7128M of Rubanda covid emergency response.
ASP Maate said that the motor vehicle was recovered from scene by breakdown to Rubanda police station as inquiries into the matter continue.
