UNATU finally suspends their National strike

Teachers under the Uganda National Teachers Union—UNATU—have suspended their nationwide strike, giving Parliament time to resolve their grievances.

The decision followed a heated meeting between UNATU leaders from across the country, workers’ representatives in Parliament, and officials from the National Organisation of Trade Unions, NOTU.

UNATU’s leadership told the teachers that Speaker of Parliament Anita Among had recalled the committees on Education and Public Service from recess to scrutinize the teachers’ petition and find a lasting solution.

However, UNATU General Secretary Filbert Baguma warned that the union will not hesitate to resume the industrial action if Parliament fails to address their concerns.
