In a significant milestone for the residents of Rukungiri and Kanungu districts, the Ugandan Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Dr. Flavian Zeija, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to local leaders for their relentless efforts in establishing the Rukungiri High Court.
During the commissioning ceremony held today, he highlighted the importance of this new court in enhancing access to justice for the community.
Dr. Zeija commended the visionary leadership of Rukungiri Municipality Mayor and his team, acknowledging their pivotal role in bringing the high court to the district. He emphasized that the court will greatly benefit residents by eliminating the need for long journeys to access high court services, which previously posed a significant challenge.
The Deputy Chief Justice also extended his appreciation to the Government of Uganda, particularly President Yoweri Museveni, for providing the necessary funding for the timely completion of the court house.
Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, welcomed Dr. Zeija and thanked both the President and Parliament for approving the budget for the high court’s construction.
He underscored the importance of this facility in reducing travel burdens for the local populace and urged residents to utilize the court effectively.
Rukungiri District Deputy RDC Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom addressed the court leaders, assuring them of the RDC office’s support while cautioning against corruption. He urged residents to report any judges soliciting bribes, reinforcing the commitment to uphold justice.
Lastly, Hon. Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri District LC5 Chairperson, expressed gratitude to President Museveni and his government for bringing justice closer to the people. He called on judges to maintain integrity and fairness in their rulings.
The commissioning of the Rukungiri High Court marks a significant advancement in the region’s judicial landscape, promising to enhance the delivery of justice and improve the lives of many residents.
