The territorial police in Rukiga District are currently investigating the tragic death of Nkanshabe Evelyn, known by her aliases Shamirah and Kyarenga. The 35-year-old woman, a resident of Rwabahanze Cell in Muhanga Ward, was allegedly murdered on June 2, 2025, in the neighboring Rubare Town Council, Ntungamo District.

According to preliminary reports, Evelyn was last seen on the night of June 2 around 10:00 PM. She received a phone call from her boyfriend, identified as Brian, who allegedly lured her out with the promise of purchasing her a drink. After she left, her family grew concerned when she did not return home. They reported her disappearance at the Muhanga Police Station, prompting an immediate search.

Tragically, Evelyn’s lifeless body was later discovered along a road in Rubare Town Council. The police were alerted and subsequently transported her remains to Itojo Hospital Mortuary in Ntungamo District for an autopsy. The Rukiga police quickly initiated a murder case and opened an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Detectives from both the Traffic and Criminal Investigations Departments (CID) from Ntungamo and Rukiga were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence. They were accompanied by Scene of Crime Officers (Soco) to ensure a thorough examination of the area where Evelyn’s body was found.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist in the investigation. ASP Maate Elly, the Public Relations Officer for Kigezi, emphasized the importance of community involvement in solving this heinous crime. “We encourage anyone who may have witnessed anything or has pertinent information to volunteer it to the police,” he stated.
