Residents of Nyakizinga Sub county in Mitooma District are expressing deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the Kajuguta Bridge, which serves as a vital connection between Nyakizinga and Rwamabondo Town Council, as well as between Ntungamo and Mitooma Districts.

In interviews with our reporter, local residents including Aijuuka Agaan, Atwijukire Praise, and Jonas Nsimenta voiced their frustrations. They highlighted that the bridge’s poor state has severely impacted local businesses, particularly those trying to transport goods to Kagaraama Market and Ntungamo Town.

Children are also facing difficulties as the bridge poses challenges for their daily school commutes. The residents noted that transport in the area has been adversely affected, making it harder for traders from Nyakizinga to shop in nearby Rwashamaire and Rwamabondo.

“We urge our leaders and the government to take immediate action to address this critical situation,” one resident stated. “We are Ugandans too, and we pay our taxes just like everyone else.”

The chairperson of LC3 Nyakizinga Subcounty, Mr. Mujuni Richard Kamugisha, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the bridge’s impact on local farmers, especially coffee growers who rely on it to transport their produce to factories. He revealed that there have been numerous accidents on the bridge, leading to fatalities.

Mujuni also mentioned that the government has promised repairs to the bridge soon. He urged officials to prioritize the safety and well-being of the residents of Nyakizinga and Rwamabondo Town.

“While we lobby for government action, I ask residents to be patient,” Mujuni said. “We are doing everything we can to ensure this bridge is repaired.”

The plight of the residents of Nyakizinga Sub county serves as a reminder of the pressing infrastructure issues faced by many communities. As they await government intervention, the call for immediate action is louder than ever.
