Residents of Bituntu and Nyarubira villages in the Bwongyera subcounty are organizing a peaceful demonstration to demand the urgent construction of their muko bridge and improved access to essential services.
Today, community members voiced their determination to take to the streets in protest of the bridge’s deteriorating condition. Longtime residents such as Buzabariho Saphinah, Kanyesigye Amon, and Ninshaba Gerald highlighted the bridge’s importance, noting that it serves as a critical link between the two villages. The bridge, they explained, was destroyed during the rainy season due to heavy rainfall and flooding.
The destruction of the bridge has severely disrupted daily life, particularly affecting business owners, schoolchildren, and boda boda riders. The residents have appealed to their local government for prompt intervention to address these pressing issues.

Vincent Mugirangabo, the subcounty district councillor, has assured residents that their concerns will be taken seriously. He pointed out that the bridge’s condition has also hindered patients’ access to medical services in neighboring areas.
Mugirangabo stated that funding for the bridge construction has already been included in the financial plans for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. He pledged to advocate for the residents’ needs and work diligently to rectify the situation, restoring their access and improving overall community welfare.
