NEWS– The police has finally cleared this year’s Nyege Nyege festival despite the ban calls from area born again religious leaders.

This follows a joint security meeting chaired by AIGP Frank Mwesigwa, the Director of Operations to prepare for the upcoming Nyenge Nyenge festival at Jinja Golf Course in Jinja City.

The festival organized by Africa Talent Group is scheduled to take place from 14th -17th November 2024 and is expected to attract both local and international revellers.

Following the meeting, the joint security team conducted a site tour to finalize planning and preparations.

Frank Mwesigwa assured Nyege Nyege revellers of security ahead of the festival despite calls from the Greater Jinja Born Again Churches to ban the annual event over claims of ‘moral decay’.

Mwesigwa said that all the land, water and aerial security assets have been drawn to Jinja to keep both the local and international tourists attending the event safe.

He however cautioned revellers against all anti-social behaviour and urged them to follow the guidelines issued by security operatives.

In response to the call by Greater Jinja Born Again Churches to ban the event, Derrick Debru (Belgian National), the co-founder of Nyege Nyege festival, acknowledged that the festival may not resonate with everyone but emphasised its role in bringing joy, supporting livelihoods, and enhancing Uganda’s reputation as a culturally vibrant and welcoming destination.
