Over One Thousand Leaders Inducted in Rukungiri District Workshops

In a significant move towards community development, over one thousand leaders have been inducted through workshops organized by the Office of the Resident District Commissioner in partnership with the Minister of Security and Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, Major General Jim Muhwezi Katugugu. These workshops took place across all sub-counties and town councils in Rujumbura County.

The primary aim of these workshops was to induct various leaders, including LCI chairpersons, NRM chairpersons at all levels, LCIII chairpersons, town council mayors, LCII chairpersons, and leaders of special interest groups. The sessions addressed critical issues related to security, politics, health, economic development, and patriotism, all pivotal for fostering peace and progress within communities.

Retired Major General Jim Muhwezi Katugugu urged the public to foster a love for their country and actively support government initiatives aimed at continuous national development. His remarks came during the final workshop held in Ruhinda sub-county.

Minister Jim Muhwezi emphasized the importance of leaders setting a positive example in their communities. He encouraged them to share the knowledge gained from the workshops with residents, thereby facilitating community development.

The Resident District Commissioner for Rukungiri District, Bron Kikanshemeza, expressed his gratitude to all leaders for their commitment and participation, highlighting that the turnout signifies a strong desire for development. He mentioned that the initiative is designed to encompass the entire Rukungiri District and will eventually extend to all parishes, ensuring widespread public awareness on security, health, patriotism, and political matters.

He urged leaders to fulfill their responsibilities and collaborate with residents to promote change in their communities.

Lieutenant Colonel James Mwesigye, the Commissioner for RDCs in the Kigezi and Ankole regions, also voiced appreciation for the leaders’ willingness to engage in educational initiatives. He stressed that supporting government programs should be their utmost priority and urged them to avoid corrupt practices to truly foster development.

He called on leaders to uphold patriotism, which he believes will enable them to work with dedication and love for their country. The insights gained from the workshops should be communicated to the residents to stimulate growth and development in their areas.

Hellen Kabajungu, the LCIII chairperson for Ruhinda sub-county, expressed gratitude towards the workshop organizers, noting that the training covered vital issues that would aid them in governance. She affirmed their readiness to implement the learnings and share the information with residents to promote peace and development in their communities.
